Millwall are two points worse off at this stage of the season compared to the same time last year after 17 matches.

The Lions are outside the bottom three on goal difference heading into the final international break of the calendar year.

With 17 matches of the campaign gone, Neil Harris will be hoping to use the next fortnight to get his players firing on all cylinders in the hope they can get close to repeating the post-Christmas form that eventually saw them finish just three points off the play-offs in eighth.

It is going to be a critical ten days or so for the London club who have struggled to kick-on this term after last season’s heroics.

The time spent on the training pitch will be to the benefit of a few of the Lions' players who have been out of the side in recent weeks.

They will all be looking to train as well as they can ahead of potential inclusion in the matchday squad ahead of the visit of Bolton next Saturday.

With that said, here are three Millwall players who must prove their worth over the international break.

After 61 consecutive appearances in the Lions side since his 2017 summer arrival from Bradford, James Meredith has been one of Millwall’s most consistent performers.

But this term, the left-back has been slightly off the boil, and he has since been dropped in favour of Murray Wallace.

The 30-year-old needs to use this international break to show the form and consistency that saw him become a mainstay in the Lions’ defence in the last 18 months or so.

Having returned to the fold following a spell out injured, Byron Webster has played a handful of games this term in the absence of Shaun Hutchinson.

But with the Lions’ vice-captain returning, the defender has since been out the side again - and rarely making the bench.

This two-week break will be what could well make or break his Lions career ahead of the transfer window.

With Millwall continuing to leak goals, this fortnight could prove to be productive for Webster who will be hoping impress and start next weekend.

Jordan Archer has not featured since August 26 and will be keen to regain his place in the Millwall starting XI.

Having failed to be selected for international duty, the Scotland keeper will have two weeks at Calmont Road to try and impress Neil Harris enough to start ahead of Ben Amos next weekend.

Despite the change in the keeper, the Lions’ fortunes have remained the same and Archer will be hoping to impress ahead of Bolton in two weeks.
