Slaven Bilic is set to commence his second job in English football in the coming weeks as he embarks on a huge task at West Brom, where he will be expected to lead the Baggies back to the Premier League.

West Brom had an underwhelming end to 2018/19 - they were well in the automatic promotion race until around February/March, but a poor run of results saw them drop away from the pace-setters, resulting in Darren Moore losing his job.

James Shan took over for the rest of the season, but the play-offs ended in disappointing, losing on penalties to eventual winners Aston Villa.

Now, with a permanent manager in place, West Brom and Bilic have a serious chance of promotion this coming season.

The Hawthorns club have only made one signing so far - the loan deal for Filip Krovinovic from Benfica - but more deals should follow in the coming weeks.

Here, we list three things West Brom’s Croatian boss needs to do between now and the opening weekend clash with Nottingham Forest on August 3rd.

Do you agree, or can you think of another thing he must act on before the opening weekend clash? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sign a striker

With Jay Rodriguez’ move to Burnley complete, and Dwight Gayle’s return looking unlikely, West Brom need to sign a striker.

The duo were prolific last season, and part of the reason West Brom scored so many goals last season.

If Bilic wants his Baggies side to thrive, he must sign a new attacker for the new season.

Generally, Bilic likes a big attacker who can hold the ball up with his back to goal, and is clinical in and around the six yard box.

Baggies have no huge issues in terms of budget, so they must do all they can to sign a better striker.

Sort out what system to use

With a couple of managers coming and going in the last 18 months, West Brom have played a number of different formations, including 3, 4 and 5 at the back.

Bilic needs to drill a formation into his players over the pre-season. At West Ham, his most prolific system was 4-2-3-1, where he built the team around the energetic and prolific Dimitri Payet.

Last season West Brom built the team around young creator Harvey Barnes, but struggled when he was recalled to Leicester. Another area they could target in the transfer window is to sign a creative #10, who could flourish at the Hawthorns under Bilic.

How much will the young players be used?

With Rekeem Harper, Sam Field and Jonathan Leko, West Brom have a plethora of youngsters ready for regular first team action.

Harper especially looked good last season, showing maturity beyond his years, so he will be hoping he has a big part to play in the coming season.

Bilic must use pre-season to assess these and more, and make a decision on the role they will play this season.

The Croatian isn’t afraid to play youngsters, so it will be interesting to see how he uses the young stars at the Hawthorns.
