League One outfit Sheffield United face the mouthwatering prospect of a trip to Manchester United in the FA Cup in early 2016, and the game will provide the club with a welcome distraction from their League One campaign.

They injected a much needed boost into their promotion bid at the weekend however with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Coventry City, with Billy Sharp's goal firing the Blades into the top half of the table.

The League One play-offs will be a minimum requirement for Nigel Adkins' men this season and with January on the horizon his thoughts will begin to turn towards new recruits.

The Blades could take the FA Cup game as a chance to build a relationship with United in the attempt that they can loan some of their young starlets and give them a platform to gain some first-team football at a big club.

Nick Powell

Nick Powell

When Powell played for Crewe Alexandra he was tipped as one of the next big things in English football.

A series of failed loan spells and a lack of game time at United, have seen that tagline become a thing of the past with Powell's career stagnating somewhat.

Despite Powell getting on the pitch as United exited the Champions League at German club Wolfsburg last week, his days at United do look to be numbered and the chance to go out on loan would aid his career.

Adkins would welcome Powell's hold up play in his attack and a loan move would be a coup for a League One club, if he can get Powell back to his best.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

The United winger is the latest starlet to emerge on the first-team scene at Old Trafford, and made his first start for the club in Saturday's 2-1 reverse at the hands of Bournemouth.

The 18-year-old turned in an impressive debut, despite the result, but you can't help but feel that given United's recent poor form boss Louis van Gaal will soon revert back to the tried and tested, more experienced players.

That could mean a spell out on loan for Borthwick-Jackson, and the chance to play in front of 20,000 plus every week at Bramall Lane would be a good move for the youngster.

Adkins likes his wingers to be direct and get at the opposing full-backs and judged on his performances for United so far, that is exactly what Borthwick-Jackson can offer.

Guillermo Varela

Guillermo Varela

The United right-back played the full 90 minutes as they were knocked out of the Champions League last week, but has struggled to find decent enough form to put a stranglehold on the right-back slot.

The Uruguayan is finding the physical demands of the Premier League reasonably tough and it doesn't help when he is in and out of the first-team picture.

A loan move would allow Varela to adapt to the physicality of English football and at the same time allow him to play regular games for a decent sized club.

The South Yorkshire based Blades are conceding too many goals of late and someone with the defensive qualities of Varela would really benefit the team's back line.

Sheffield United fans... Would you welcome any of these three players? What are you thoughts on the Blades' season so far?
