Sky Bet Championship outfit Nottingham Forest are currently on the search for another new manager after Philippe Montanier was sacked at the weekend following eight successive games without a victory.

The Frenchman has divided opinion among the Forest faithful with poor results and a series of flop summer signings ultimately contributing towards his inevitable dismissal.

With controversial owner Fawaz Al Hasawi now back involved with the day-to-day running of the club, it is unlikely that too many managers will want to throw their name into the mix for the vacancy.

The Reds are currently just three points outside the relegation zone in the Championship and it is vital that the powers that be pick the right manager this time around, with relegation to League One unthinkable for the East Midlands-based club.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at three managers who would be fantastic appointments for the club.

Gary Rowett

The ex-Birmingham City man was the number one target for the American consortium that were set to buy the club, although the collapse of that deal might spell the end of Rowett as a primary target.

It would be a real coup for the Reds to secure such a good manager, especially after he rejected advances from Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea City last month.

The damage is beyond repair between Fawaz and the Forest supporters, although tempting Rowett to take over the managerial vacancy would certainly be a positive step in the right direction.

Nigel Pearson

The man who started the 2016/17 campaign as the manager of fierce local rivals Derby County would be a solid appointment for the Reds at this stage of the season.

The current Reds squad could do with a bit of tough love and Pearson’s nasty streak would certainly ruffle a few feathers.

Having worked with eccentric owners in the past, however, Pearson might feel that working under Forest’s Kuwaiti owner is a challenge that he simply cannot accept.

Kenny Jackett

Although the former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager isn’t exactly a stellar name, he is well equipped to work at clubs who are embroiled in adversity, which is a clear trait which Nottingham Forest must consider right now.

Jackett has a calm head, clear tactical ideas and has achieved results with squads much worse than that which is currently in place at the City Ground.

A short-term agreement for the 55-year-old to take over until the end of the season would be a smart move from a Forest point of view.
