Nottingham Forest have parted company with Aitor Karanka this morning after weeks of speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s future at the City Ground.

Karanka has been with Forest just over 12 months and oversaw a huge summer overhaul that saw a mammoth 17 new players arrive at the City Ground.

Results and performances haven’t matched the club’s ambitions, with an announcement coming this morning on Forest’s official website confirming that the two parties have gone their separate ways.

The search to source Karanka’s permanent successor will now begin in Nottingham, as the Forest board look for the man to guide the club into the top-six.

There are some good managers out there at this stage, but also some that could seriously flop if given the chance.

Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE managers Forest must avoid approaching to be Karanka’s replacement…

Martin O’Neill

The former Forest player most recently managed the Republic of Ireland, but it has been a long time since we’ve seen him in club management.

Whilst he’s a Forest legend for what he did as a player, he wouldn’t be the man to get the best out of this group of players.

Gary Rowett

This would be an unpopular appointment anyway given Rowett’s clashes with the Forest fanbase previously, but from a footballing point of view, it wouldn’t work either.

Rowett has failed to deliver promotion at Derby and struggled to have a positive impact on a strong Stoke squad.

Championship clubs will surely be looking to swerve him now.

David Moyes

Moyes was amongst those tipped to replace Rowett at Stoke, as the Scot looks for a return to management.

Forest will be aware of his experience in the top-flight, but he’s another that wouldn’t be right for this group of players.

It’s hard to see Moyes getting Forest’s Portuguese stars firing.
