News broke on Thursday evening that Millwall manager Neil Harris had stepped down as manager of the club.

The 42-year-old tookover as boss back in April 2015 and had been the longest serving manager in the EFL, managing 234 matches at the helm of the club and guiding them to promotion from League One in 2017.

He then established them as a comfortable Championship club but having flirted a bit too closely with relegation last season, the pressure began to grow.

And, currently sat in 18th place with ten matches played, he clearly felt like he had taken them as far as he could, opting to move on.

Now, however, the recruitment process must begin and here are THREE managers that the club have to consider for the role...

Gareth Ainsworth

The Wycombe boss' stock has never been higher than it is right now.

The Chairboys are flying in League One and are beginning to catch the eye from all of those in the division and Ainsworth is a big part of that.

He has built an impressive dynasty with them and has managed to improve season after season and he would be a very smart, and possibly long-term, option for the Lions to consider.

Mark Robins

Much like Ainsworth, Robins is quickly starting to prove himself as a manager who is managing below his level in League One.

He has done a brilliant job with Coventry, currently moulding the Sky Blues into promotion challengers in the third-tier, especially when you consider the host of off-field problems he has been facing.

One of his biggest strengths is his ability to get the very best out of the players at his disposal and I would back him to comfortably guide the Londoners to safety straight away.

Nigel Adkins

In tricky off-field conditions, Adkins did brilliantly with Hull City last season, guiding them into a play-off challenge despite being an early tip for relegation.

His stock may have dropped significantly since his time with Southampton, but Millwall will know that they are still at the level where he could have an impact.

He is probably the safest option available to them and would undoubtedly do a decent job of galvanising the team and fan base.
