Carlisle were left stunned by John Sheridan’s resignation letter that was handed to them, and they announced that they had reluctantly accepted the offer.

The League Two side have been in excellent form recently, and have won their last five league games.

This impressive run of form has seen Carlisle move into the play-off places, with many supporters confident that they could retain their place in the top seven in League Two this season.

Sheridan’s resignation couldn’t have come at a worse time as they have a crucial match against Mansfield this weekend.

Academy manager, Tommy Wright and first team coach, Paul Murray will take charge of first-team matters until a permanent boss is appointed.

But who should Carlisle be targeting as Sheridan’s successor?
