Sheffield Wednesday are under a serious revival under Carlos Carvalhal and have a real sense of confidence this season to make it into the play-offs.

The Owls have invested heavily in the January transfer window, bringing in raw quality that has led to them excelling in the Championship this season.

The club are in an excellent vein of form – winning four out of their last six games. This is a side beaming with buoyancy and a safe bet to make the top six by the end of May.

Although their excellent season could well be taken off them in an instant as the chasing pack – notably Ipswich and Birmingham - continue to keep up the pace with the Yorkshire side.

New players could prove the difference in whether the club make the play-offs, and although they have brought in players last month, there is still always room for improvement.

As the loan window opened its doors last week, Wednesday should look to the Premier League talent that is being overlooked.

Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and every footballer would dream of stepping foot on the Old Trafford pitch in a red shirt.

Dutch manager Louis van Gaal is a tough man to please and has plenty of fringe players not being considered for the first team squad.

With only a 38 mile distance from Sheffield to Manchester, the Premier League giants could do their Yorkshire neighbours a favour in their promotion bid.

Andreas Pereira

The young starlet has been a hot prospect at Manchester United for the past couple of months and would be a welcome addition in Sheffield Wednesday’s attacking department.

The winger has mainly featured for Man Utd in the Capital One Cup this season – appearing against Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.

His impressive displays against some of the best Championship sides in the division this season indicates that he can comfortably compete in the second-tier.

He is an exciting prospect whenever he gets on the ball, and someone that Wednesday should seriously consider in the loan window.

Paddy McNair

The Northern Ireland international has really fallen down the pecking order in the past few months.

There is always competition for places at such a big club like Man Utd, and with a Champions League up for grabs, Van Gaal is sticking with experience with Smalling and Blind commanding the centre back positions this season.

McNair is comfortable in possession, composed under pressure and very versatile that would be an excellent quality to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Northern Irishman has the talent and quality to stake a claim why he should be back in the Man Utd first team squad.

Despite being at a young age, he is experienced and would complete the spine of the Wednesday starting 11.

Guillermo Varela

The young right-back really has a bright future with Manchester United, after a fine performance against Derby County in the FA Cup.

It was the 22-year-old’s fourth involvement in Louis Van Gaal’s first team this season. He also made his Champions League debut this year, after playing 90 minutes in their 3-2 loss to Wolfsburg.

He has done well when called upon and looks ready for more regular involvement. However, the question remains whether he is ready to be playing week in-week out in the Premier League.

Sheffield Wednesday plays with an attacking intensity and would suit Varela’s energetic agility.

The full-back should definitely consider leaving the club in order to develop his career with a side that is brimming with confidence.
