Bolton still have a fight on their hands if they're to preserve their Championship status after conceding a stoppage time equaliser to Barnsley at the weekend.

That keeps Phil Parkinson's men two points ahead of the Tykes, although they have a game in hand, whilst Birmingham are below the Trotters on goal difference.

Given all that, it promises to be a very exciting end to the season for the neutrals, with plenty of twists and turns sure to be had.

It will be a huge feat for Bolton to stay in the Championship after they endured a very difficult start and had to contend with losing key man Gary Madine in January.

Here's three things we've learnt about Parkinson's men this season...

At one stage of the season, Bolton looked cut adrift, even if it was at an early stage of the campaign.

However, the side showed real fight and togetherness and managed to get themselves out of trouble, battling for every point.

It's not been enough to guarantee survival yet but if they do stay up then the whole squad deserve credit for the way they've pulled together and got themselves out of trouble.

All the team spirit and togetherness in the world can only take you so far and it;s fair to say Bolton are missing that little bit of quality in the final third.

They lost top scorer and influential striker Gary Madine in January to Cardiff and failed to replace the big man.

If they are in the Championship next season, Parkinson will need to focus on bringing in quality to help the Trotters improve when it comes to opening up sides and scoring goals.

If Bolton do go down, it won't be anything to do with their home form, where they've been very good for a side near the bottom of the table.

Aston Villa, Cardiff and Bristol City have all fell to defeat at the Macron Stadium, with Parkinson finding a successful formula for the side on their own patch.

Away from home though, it's been a different story. Bolton have the worst record in the league on their travels, with just one win and 12 points from 22 games this season.

Parkinson will have to look at how he sets the side up as that return is nowhere near good enough.
