Luton might just have shown their hand a bit too early.

They've been champions-elect for a while now, but a poor run of form has seen them slip to second in the table.

Now, without a win in five, they only have a five point cushion between themselves and the play-off race.

What's more, they still have to play promotion hopefuls Mansfield and Notts County, as well as play-off chasing Carlisle.

The run in doesn't look easy and whilst they're still looking favourable for promotion, they have to arrest the current form quickly.

There's no obvious reason for the mini collapse either, for much of the season they've been infinitely better than the teams around them.

They hammered Yeovil 8-2 on the opening day and haven't relented, until now.

Prior to beating Lincoln on News Year's Day, they had lost one in 14 matches. Since then, they've won four in 14.

Whatever happens during the rest of the season, Nathan Jones will be at the helm next campaign and more than likely, that will be in League One.

With that step up comes some very harsh decisions and Jones won't be exempt from making some himself.

Here are three decisions FLW think he might have to make this summer....

Hylton has been a revelation this season, his robust manner and keen eye for goal has been the difference in many of their matches. Would he step up to League One though, or would Jones be better to look for an alternative forward?

Hylton isn't the top scorer at Luton, James Collins is with 17 and although having two 20-goal strikers might be impressive at this level, I'm not sure the former can carry it in League One. He's barely played outside the basement division and when he did, Rotherham cast him aside in favour of more proven players.

Hylton is a League Two striker but if Jones and Luton are to succeed in League One, it might be time to cash him in and move one. After all, there are plenty of money-heavy League Two sides who would welcome Hylton with open arms.

Stech has had a good season, but many are pointing a finger at him after a couple of shaky performances. He's a fine physical specimen, a huge presence in the sticks, but he certainly cost his side two points against Coventry, if not three.

If Luton do take a step up there's going to be higher quality strikers with more guile and better finishing. If there are question marks above Stech's head now, what will they be like six weeks in to a new campaign?

Jones must decide if he's going to stay with the former West Ham man, or look higher up the league for a different, more reliable number one.

The transfer window has been an interesting factor in Luton's success, but has it also contributed to their downfall? Up until Christmas the Hatters were flying, they looked set for a record points total and maybe even a record goal scoring total. Since then there's been a collapse, they've shown the sort of form that a mid table side might expect. Why?

Jake Jervis arrived on deadline day, a seasoned pro who has since played seven times for the Hatters. Flynn Downes also came in from Ipswich on loan, they're set to lose him to international football after he also made seven starts. Has tinkering with his squad caused problems behind the scenes? Luton have a relatively big squad of well over 30 players, does Jones need to trim this in order to become a settled and successful side?
