It's been an interesting start to Frank Lampard's career as a manager, culminating in a little lesson this weekend as he was sent off against Rotherham during the 1-0 defeat.

His side are currently seventh in the table, but they've got 12 points which is only three fewer than the leaders, Leeds United.

Whilst it might be the sort of position Derby fans expected, it is a sign of Lampard being a competent manager.

Nothing is presented on a plate and his side have had to fight hard for their points. They face a double-header against Blackburn and Brentford this week, after which the new manager will have learned much more about his side.

However, he will already have been picking up little bits here and there, learning about his players and the set up. Here's three lessons FLW believe Frank Lampard has learned about the Rams this season.

Three of their four wins have come against sides in the bottom three, Preston, Ipswich and Reading. The final win came against Hull City, 17th and struggling also.

Millwall, Rotherham and Leeds have all defeated the Rams, meaning perhaps Lampard knows his side can despatch the strugglers, but that something new is needed against those higher-placed teams.

The next few days will prove or disprove this lesson.

He started wanting to play out from the back, but players like Richard Keogh are just not cut out for that.

Lampard has clearly seen that and is in the process of fine tuning his approach. It proves he is a reactive manager willing to instil change where necessary.

Few of his strikers have risen to the occasion, with Waghorn and Nugent bagging just one goal each this season and Jack Marriott barely given a chance to get off the mark.

He may have learned that his current centre forwards are hindering his side's progress, whilst the dynamic midfield of Tom Lawrence, Mason Mount and a handful of others are driving it forward.

Surely, the time for Marriott to be given a run in the side is approaching?
