Sunderland have endured a turbulent campaign, but it looks like there might be light at the end of the Premier League season.

Dick Advocaat, who performed a miracle to keep them from the same drop last term, was dismissed at the start of October after not winning a game all season, leaving them 19th place.

Since then Sam Allardyce has come in, and has got the best out of Jermaine Defoe.

His 13 league goals mean that they are in with a great chance of beating the drop. They sit 18th, one point behind Norwich, but have a game in hand.

Recently, a win against the Canaries and impressive draws against Arsenal and Stoke have gave them this chance. They were also unbeaten in March.

They still have work to do, but have some decent players, the aforementioned Defoe spearheading those.

Whatever division they play in next season, there's definitely a clean up job for Big Sam to do.

Charlie Taylor

Voted by many as the club's player of the season, Taylor has played every single match since returning from a bout of glandular fever early in the season.

His latest two performances against Hull and Charlton has led him to hit the headlines; winning man of the match twice. In fact, he has three assists in his last four, proving he has just as much to offer going forward as well as defence.

His interceptions are a strong feature of his game, as is his ability to dribble with the ball.

He would fit well into most lower-Premier League sides, and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, a move away from Elland Road may not be the weirdest of suggestions.

Sol Bamba

The physical centre-half has statistically been the Whites' best player, according to WhoScored.com. Man of the match performances against Burnley and Wolves, as well as goals in the recent games against Blackburn, Wolves and Charlton has signalled an impressive end to the season for Bamba.

His biggest weakness could be his discipline, picking up three yellow cards in his first three appearances this season.

However, the 30-year old is very experienced, with spells at PSG, Dunfermline, Hibernian, Leicester, Trabzonspor and Palermo before his move to Yorkshire.

A move for Bamba should improve Allardyce's defense, with none of John O'Shea, Younes Kaboul and Wes Brown being able to nail down a place this season.

Marco Silvestri

The goalkeeper has impressed greatly amongst the Leeds fans, winning man of the match four times this season.

The only time he has spent off the pitch was a single minute after being sent off in the Yorkshire derby against Rotherham, and the resulting suspension.

Silvestri fulfills the stereotypical criteria for a continental goalkeeper, liking to punch the ball when he can.

This doesn't detract from his talents, as he is probably one of the best unsung 'keepers in the league.
