Leeds United are one of several Championship sides that are keen on free-scoring National League striker Macauley Bonne.

That's the latest, according to TEAMtalk, who claim that the Whites are competing with the likes of Norwich, Derby and Nottingham Forest for the Leyton Orient man.

Bonne has been in fine goalscoring form this season, hitting 16 goals for Justin Edinburgh's side, who currently lead the way in the fifth-tier.

And, with Marcelo Bielsa's squad looking very thin in certain areas, they are expected to be busy in the New Year as they look to add depth to help sustain a promotion push.

But, is the 23-year-old the answer? Here we look at THREE consequences for the Yorkshire side if they do bring in the Zimbabwe international...

With Kemar Roofe, Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts as the senior options at Elland Road, it's hard enough for youngsters to break through.

However, that challenge of playing in the first-team for the likes of Sam Dalby and Ryan Edmondson would be made even harder if Bonne arrived.

Leeds need to think about their long-term options before sanctioning a deal for the non-league frontman.

With Leeds sure to be pushing for promotion in the New Year, they need big additions in January that can help them over the line and into the Premier League.

But, is Bonne that man?

Whilst he's a promising player, he isn't going to be a statement signing to rivals as he is completely unproven at this level.

If Bielsa wants another addition in the final third, the fans will demand a proven upgrade on what they have and it's understandable.

In terms of priorities this January, bringing in a striker has to be way down the list.

With Bamford, Roofe and Roberts to choose from in the New Year, they have a good variety and enough quality to last the season.

Unfortunately, that's not the case in defence and in goal, so questions will be asked if those positions aren't strengthened before a striker joins.
