Nottingham Forest are a team desperately short on confidence at present and with new investors set to take over ownership of the club, manager Philippe Montanier is searching for a good run of form to try and save his job.

The Frenchman has overseen a disastrous run of form which has produced just one win in 10 league games, with the Reds perilously close to the drop zone in the Sky Bet Championship.

Whether the foreign import keeps his job remains to be seen but at present it looks as though the squad could do with a boost, to give the club the best chance of staying up.

After signing a glut of players in the summer, the club might be forced to shop in a cheaper market during January, with Leagues One and Two a viable probability.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at three players that Forest could look to sign from League Two during the January transfer window.

Omar Bogle

The powerful Grimsby Town striker is a wanted man and if he remains a Mariners player come the end of January the League Two club will have done extremely well to keep him.

The 23-year-old made the transition from non-league to the Football League with relative ease, netting nine goals already during the current campaign, as several clubs look to pursue the striker in January.

Bogle could act as a superb compliment to the club’s current crop of strikers and he is a player that would match the ethos of a young squad at the City Ground.

Graham Carey

The Plymouth Argyle midfielder looks destined for bigger things and one thing which Forest lack at present is an out and out attacking midfielder.

Carey would fit the bill incredibly well and would add an injection of flair into the Nottingham Forest squad, with his performances in the Pilgrims’ midfield catching the eye this season.

The 27-year-old has netted seven league goals this season and Plymouth’s league position at the summit of League Two might be the only thing that persuades the Irishman to stay at Home Park in the near future.

Nathan Thomas

One of the standout stories of the League Two campaign so far as been the form of Hartlepool United winger Thomas.

The 22-year-old is the club’s top scorer with seven notches in the league this season and on current form the winger will have no shortage of suitors by the time January comes around.

Thomas left Mansfield Town to return closer to his home and that might cause problems for any club wanting to offer the winger a chance to play in the Championship.
