Newcastle United are flying at the top of the Championship under the guidance of Rafa Benitez, and things are looking extremely good for everyone at St James' Park right now.

A hard-fought win over struggling Cardiff City this weekend show that the Toon have the resolve and fight as well as the much-needed quality to potentially go on and win this division.

Their squad is arguably one of the strongest this division has ever seen and it's good to see Benitez using a whole host of players - after all, they've invested heavily for a reason.

But one area we've not perhaps seen as much promise from due to investment are those promising players coming from the academy and youth teams.

With that in mind, we'd very much like to see the Magpies invest in some quality youth players this January, from the lower echelons of the Football League.

So here's 3 League Two stars Newcastle should consider taking a chance on in January.

Danny Rose

Former Barnsley defender Danny Rose has been in fine form for Mansfield Town this season and has helped guide his team to 13th in the table despite some tipping them to struggle this campaign.

He made the move to Nottinghamshire from Bury at the start of the campaign and has been instrumental in some fantastic results so far this season.

At only 22, he's got years ahead of him and might be a full-back worth keeping an eye on when January comes around.

Conor Chaplin

Portsmouth forward Conor Chaplin has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign and he's very much a favourite down at Fratton Park.

He's scored five times already this season but what makes his form so impressive is the quality of his all-round game, something some have suggested could get him a move up the divisions in January.

His hold-up play is good, he's decent in the air despite being quite small and he brings his teammates into games too.

A risk but he's definitely one of the most talked-about youngsters in the division right now.

George Cooper

Crewe Alexandra are going well in the division at the moment and much of their good play can be debited to young midfield George Cooper.

The 20-year-old has been superb in the middle-of-the-park for Alex and his quality has been clear for all to see, with his side sitting seventh in the table.

He scores goals, creates chances and enjoys chasing back.

As young box-to-box midfielders go, there might not be any better in England, let alone League Two.
