Sunderland’s planning for life in League One is well underway heading into the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Black Cats have suffered back-to-back relegations in the last two years, which has left them facing football in the third-tier of English football during the 2018/19 campaign.

Stewart Donald’s takeover at the Stadium of Light has been finalised in the last week, whilst on Friday, Sunderland announced the appointment of Jack Ross on a two-year deal.

With a new manager now in place, Sunderland’s planning for League One can firmly begin, with Ross’ first duty sure to be overhauling the playing squad he has inherited.

Ross needs to axe plenty of his squad ahead of League One football, but then comes the harder task of sourcing the right quality of player to replace those outgoing.

One place Sunderland could look to recruit from is League Two. Here is a look at THREE players from the fourth-tier that Ross should take a look at…

McNulty has helped Coventry City to the play-off final, with the forward’s goals across the season absolutely vital.

The 25-year-old could well fire Coventry into League One next season, but if he doesn’t, he could be making the step up to League One without the Sky Blues.

Sunderland could do far worse than bringing him on board.

Boateng has been in superb form for Exeter City this season, putting them in the play-off final alongside Coventry.

The midfielder looks a class above in League Two and more than capable of producing in League One.

Sunderland should consider a move for the ex-Crystal Palace midfielder regardless of Exeter’s potential promotion.

Grant spent the season on-loan with Notts County in League Two, but will return to Nottingham Forest this summer.

The 23-year-old midfielder has 15 goals to his name during the 2017/18 campaign, but it remains to be seen if he gets a chance with Forest.

If he’s on the move again, Sunderland should be in the hunt to sign him.
