Sky Bet League Two has produced some pretty exhilarating football at times this season and the race for two of  the three promotion places look set to go to the wire.

Northampton Town could be promoted as early as this coming Saturday, whilst at the bottom Dagenham and Redbridge have it all to do, in order to ensure they keep their Football League status intact.

It is at this time of the season when managers earn their money. Will they steer their team towards a play-off place, will they cope with the pressure of the board or will they crumble when push comes to shove.

Some will write their names into club history whilst others will just become a sorry piece of failed misery with their respective clubs.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at THREE League Two managers who could be looking over their shoulders this summer.....

The Portsmouth manager is under massive pressure to win promotion into Sky Bet League One during this season.

A lacklustre mid-season as ensured that they are well off the pace for automatic promotion, with promotion through the play-offs seemingly Pompey’s best chance of a place in Sky Bet League One.

Cook did a superb job of getting Chesterfield to the League One play-offs last season and in taking charge at Fratton Park took a step down a division.

The Liverpool-born manager possesses a star studded squad which boasts the likes of Gary Roberts, Ben Davies, Kyle Bennett and Christian Burgess, meaning that anything other that promotion must be deemed a failure for Cook.

Jim Bentley

The 39-year-old has been the manager of Morecambe since 2011 but with a win percentage of just over 31%, there is a sense that this season could be his last.

Admittedly Bentley does work to one of the lowest budgets in the basement division, but you have to feel that the serial underachievers could look for a change in management.

With players such as Kevin Ellison, Shaun Miller, Barry Roche in goal and Ryan Edwards, they have enough decent quality in the squad to sit higher in the division that their current position of 20th.

Bentley is worshipped by the Shrimps faithful but should they drop any further down the table, the club’s hierarchy could well opt for a fresh feel in the dugout.

Jackie McNamara

Jackie McNamara

Despite only taking over from Russ Wilcox back in October, the Scottish manager must be on borrowed time at York City.

The Minstermen are seven points adrift of safety inside the League Two relegation zone and the club are staring down the barrel of a return to non-league football.

The ex-Dundee United boss has won just four of the 25 games he has overseen as York boss and the decision to appoint a manager with no experience of managing in England is looking somewhat foolish right now.

It is impossible to imagine McNamara sticking around for a season in non-league and he is likely to leave the club with his own reputation in tatters.
