Reading fans will be encouraged by the news this morning that the Royals could be looking for a striker in this summer's transfer window, in the form of Wolves striker Leo Bonatini.

This news was brought to the Berkshire side's fanbase by journalist Courtney Friday, who says that the striker has no future at the Premier League side and the Royals are one of the clubs who are considering a move for the Brazilian.

The Royals have currently made four signings in this transfer window. Everton's teenage goalkeeper Joao Virginia and American centre back Matt Miazga have joined the Royals on season-long loan agreements, whilst former Birmingham City captain Michael Morrison and experienced midfielder Charlie Adam have both joined on permanent deals.

After Ovie Ejaria's potential loan move to the club stalling amid strong interest from Brentford, Bonatini could become Reading's fifth summer signing.

The Royals may even be craving further signings after transfer-listing a number of their senior players and also releasing a group of players at the end of their contracts last season.

Bonatini could be a very useful signing for the club who look short up front at this moment in time, with Yakou Meite, Danny Loader and Andrija Novakovich as striking options up front.

Here are three knock-on effects of him signing...

A deeper focus on the midfield

If Leo Bonatini does sign, this will allow Reading to focus on both the attacking and defensive parts of their midfield, something that they need to do in order to be successful in the Championship next season.

Andy Rinomhota, Charlie Adam and Ryan East are the only natural defensive options in midfield for the club at the moment and will need one or two more players in that area to cover for injuries and suspensions in a long, gruelling Championship season.

Ovie Ejaria may go elsewhere if an acceptable bid comes in for him, which will leave Gomes looking to another advanced midfield. A winger could also be required if Yakou Meite is played as a striker next season, with the club looking short in that area.

The signing of Bonatini will only draw more attention to the midfield area from both supporters and officials at the club. Supporters will be dissatisfied if they aren't able to bring in more midfield reinforcements.

Goals galore

Not only will Leo Bonatini be first choice striker, but fellow striker Andrija Novakovich will also be waiting in the wings ready to make substitute appearances in this upcoming season.

Novakovich scored 10 goals in the Eredivise last season, the top division of the Netherlands, after bagging over 20 in the season before at SC  Telstar. These statistics will be very promising for Reading fans, who are craving a goalscorer.

With the potential signing of Bonatini as well as Yakou Meite notching 12 goals in the Championship for Reading last season, the Royals could vastly improve their attacking record next season. These could be exciting times for Reading fans.

Loader to go?

Danny Loader is currently in the last year of his contract, meaning he will walk away from the Madejski Stadium next summer if he doesn't sign a contract extension with the club.

Inevitably, Loader won't be short of interest from other clubs after shining for Reading in the youth set up, making a few appearances for the first team last season as well. The striker has been linked with moves to top European sides, which will worry Reading who will be desperate to keep him.

The signing of Bonatini could push Loader even further back in the pecking order, which could be one of the main reasons why the 18-year-old could refuse to sign another contract with the Royals. Reading need to get him tied down to a new deal as soon as possible.
