QPR fans will have looked on with disappointment on Monday morning as it was announced that star striker Nahki Wells had been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Burnley.

As if Mondays are not bad enough already.

Wells has netted 13 goals in 26 appearances in the Championship for Mark Warburton's side, becoming a star member of what was quickly becoming a menacing attacking unit.

But with rumours of Bristol City and Nottingham Forest wanting to sign the striker this month, Burnley have acted, recalling the 29-year-old early.

Here we look at THREE potential knock-on effects this announcement could have on the R's...

Hugill steps up

The summer signing has looked impressive in flashes this season but has so far failed to stamp his authority as the main man at The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Eight goals in 26 second tier games is far from dire but with none in is previous ten matches, it is clear that he has not been playing to the best of his ability for a while.

So perhaps it could be the departure of Wells which kick-starts Hugill's season, because they are going to need a new focal figure capable of winning matches for them now.

Mlakar gets his chance

The 21-year-old, and his parent club Brighton, will be rather disappointed by the lack of game-time he has been given in West London so far this season.

He has played just over 100 minutes of Championship football so far this season across six games. It was always going to be difficult competing with both Hugill and Wells though.

QUIZ: Can you name the season in which these 14 QPR images were taken?

But with Wells having now left and QPR short on time to find a replacement in the current window, Mlakar could soon become the second choice at the club and therefore have plenty of other chances to impress.

Wells is signed permanently

The striker has not made it a secret that he would like to move permanently to the West London club after his current loan deal, so you cannot rule out the R's winning the race for his signature.

In recent seasons the club have been much more shrewd in their transfer dealings and may be hard pushed to splash the cash that may be required to bring in Wells.

But if they are going to do it for anyone, it will be the striker. He is a huge fan favourite and I think the board may well be tempted to act sooner than they wanted after this latest twist.
