3 key players from Cardiff City’s 2-1 win over Bristol City

Neil Warnock made the perfect start to his reign as Cardiff City boss with a 2-1 victory over Severnside neighbours Bristol City on Friday night.

Despite the Robins dominating possession throughout the game, the Bluebirds held firm and put in a solid and disciplined performance for their new manager.

The Welsh side took the lead when Craig Noone made a clever run and was brought down by Joe Bryan inside the penalty area.

Peter Whittingham stepped up and slotted away his penalty convincingly to put the home side into the lead.

New signing Sol Bamba made it 2-0 when a corner came in, which was poorly dealt with by the visiting defence, and the centre-back was quickest to react to stab the ball home.

The Robins immediately replied when Lee Tomlin smashed the ball past Ben Amos at his near post. It was a powerful strike, but Amos shouldn’t really have been beaten.

The Robins pushed and pushed, but Cardiff secured a crucial three points to climb out of the relegation zone.
