At the start of the season, not many people would have had Derby County down to be lowest goalscorers at this stage of the season.

They are in desperate need of an upturn of form.

There was positivity around the appointment of Nigel Pearson, with many thinking that he could finally be the man to lead them to the promised land of the Premier League.

It's turned out a far cry from that so far, and the decision to only bring in three players late on in the window seems strange.

It's a long way until January, so they may have to turn to the free transfer market beforehand.

On the other hand, we're still early in the season and things can easily sort themselves out in the Derby setup.

In addition to that, it's notoriously hard to sign a striker in January, so Pearson will do well to sign a top goalscorer should he go in for one.

In this article, FLW's Ryan Evans takes a look at THREE potential January signings that can improve Derby's goalscoring woes.....

Rudy Gestede

Whilst he hasn't hit the heights at Aston Villa, Gestede formed an awesome partnership with Jordan Rhodes at Blackburn in the 2014-15 season, where they scored 41 goals between the pair of them, with the Benin international getting 20 of them.

That came after 13 for Rovers in the 2013-14 season, an amazing record considering he only joined them in December 2013.

A born goal scorer, he already has three in seven for Villa so far this season, and with competition from two of last year's top scorers in Ross McCormack and Jonathan Kodjia, Gestede has done very well to put himself in the forefront of Roberto di Matteo's mind in terms of team selection.

Aaron Wilbraham

wilbraham

The Bristol City captain knows where the net is, scoring 21 in the 2014-15 promotion winning campaign, another eight last season and has already scored this season.

All this whilst being overshadowed by Kieran Agard, Jonathan Kodjia and Tammy Abraham in each of those seasons respectively. He may be 36, but still has talent and is a proven goalscorer.

Derby just need goals, and Wilbraham isn't getting a lot of game time at Ashton Gate this season.

With someone like Matej Vydra, he has an ideal partner to link up with.

The only question that remains is whether his fitness holds up and whether the ex-Crystal Palace wants one more challenge.

Clayton Donaldson

The Birmingham man's goalscoring record isn't in question, eleven goals and eleven assists last season and 15 goals and four assists the year before, Donaldson has managed to fend off competition from new signings Che Adams, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Greg Stewart to be Gary Rowett's first choice striker for this season, and has rewarded him with four goals in eight games this season.

He has played in every game this season apart from their latest which he missed through injury. However, whether he'd want to leave Birmingham right now is questionable.
