With Russell Slade being relieved of his managerial duties this week at Charlton Athletic, all eyes will be cast one who will be next up the Valley hot seat.

Controversial owner Roland Duchatelet has attracted nothing but criticism since his takeover of the club, and some see the managerial job at the London club as somewhat of a poisoned chalice.

Whoever does take over the job will have plenty of issues to sort out. The Addicks are languishing down in the lower regions of League One, despite a summer of high activity in the transfer window and many tipping them to be challenging at the top of the table.

In this article, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at THREE issues the new Charlton manager must sort out when they takeover...

Boardroom divide

There is clearly issues at board level at Charlton, and whoever comes into the manager's job will have to try and build some sort of relationship at board level.

Although it is clearly  not the manager's job to keep things peaceful in the boardroom, the right man can have plenty of influence if they have the experience and know-how on how to properly manage a top football club.

Whoever comes into the role though has a big job on their hands regardless. Russell Slade was seen to be the man who could do that previously, but clearly he failed in some capacity and paid the ultimate price with his job. It remains to be seen just who will take up the mantle.

Getting the fans on side

The Charlton fans are a loyal bunch, and clearly are massively frustrated at the actions of their controversial owner.

If the new manager though can detract the fans from concentrating on off field matters, it could make a huge difference. Some positive results early in their reign could well get the fans back onside and concentrating purely on the football.

The Addicks fans deserve better treatment than they have got this last few years, and the right man in charge, mixed with a positive start could really change the mood in the camp.

Keeping the players focused

The Charlton squad is one which is more than capable of competing in League One and challenging at least in the top six, however things are just not clicking at the minute.

The new manager will need to get the players focused on the job in hand and start getting their minds back to football. The right gaffer will no doubt do just that, and get his team playing the type of football which can get them out of League One.

In Nicky Ajose they have one of the top strikers in the entire league and if the new man can get Ajose firing, they could well end up in the top half or higher come May.
