Sheffield United could be without key defender John Egan for Saturday's game against Rotherham after he suffered an injury whilst away on international duty.

The 26-year-old missed Ireland's Nations League clash with Denmark last night after he had the calf complaint following their 0-0 draw with Northern Ireland just a few days before.

And, the Sheffield Star have revealed that Chris Wilder is going to wait until Thursday before making a decision on the summer signing's involvement for the Yorkshire derby.

Egan has played all but one league game this season and he has been excellent as part of a back three for the Blades that has been very solid.

Therefore, he would be sorely missed if he doesn't feature against the Millers and here we look at THREE impacts it could have...

It's fair to say that the majority of Sheffield United's side picks itself and that's certainly the case in defence.

Wilder will try and use Chris Basham and Jack O'Connell either side of Egan when they are fit, so this presents him with a real dilemma.

Richard Stearman and Martin Cranie could come in and it will be a tough choice for the manager.

Given that Egan was a big signing in the summer and has been a regular, he would be a big loss if he doesn't make it.

He has missed one game already this season, a 4-2 win over Wigan and whilst the Blades got the result they wanted, they conceded two goals, something they'd only done twice in Egan's last 14 games.

Following on from that, Wilder will recognise how important the Irishman is to the side and he will have a tough call to make.

Does he leave the former Brentford man out because it's a game against a side lower down the Championship? Or does he play him even if he's not 100% and potentially risk a further setback?
