Jamal Blackman’s season-ending injury threatened to really hurt Leeds United as Marcelo Bielsa was left with just one senior goalkeeper heading into a crucial part of the season.

Leeds then lost Bailey Peacock-Farrell for a clash with Bristol City, which further highlighted the lack of depth available to Bielsa.

However, Will Huffer stepped in, and since the return of Peacock-Farrell, Leeds have been fine, conceding just once in four fixtures since Blackman was forced to return to Chelsea.

There is a need for a new goalkeeper to be signed, though, with the Sun reporting that Karl Darlow at Newcastle United is someone who is on Leeds’ radar for around £4m.

It’s the type of signing that could prove to be brilliant for the promotion-chasing Whites and it’s certainly a needed addition.

Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE impacts the 28-year-old’s arrival could have on Leeds…

There’s no doubt that Peacock-Farrell has had his impressive moments this season, but equally, he’s made errors that have led to goals.

A new goalkeeper will come in as competition for the 22-year-old, but if Leeds spend a significant fee of Darlow, you’d expect him to be well in with a shout of becoming No.1.

The likes of Barry Douglas and Adam Forshaw have been in this position before, but there’s not much promotion experience standing out in Bielsa’s squad.

The 2016/17 campaign, when Newcastle won promotion from the Championship, Darlow played 34 times in the league.

He wasn’t involved for the run-in, but he was still part of a promotion-winning squad, which could be great for Leeds in the New Year.

Bielsa has cut a calm figure for most of the season, but there’s no doubt that he will have been worried about his goalkeeping situation.

It’s such an important position and adding a player like Darlow would surely delight the Argentinian and rid him of a lot of stress and worry.
