Iceland’s journey to the Euro 2016 Knockout Stages has been staggering. After doing the double over Holland in qualifying, they finished behind the Czech Republic in second place to book their ticket to France.
In their first game they drew 1-1 with Portugal, where Nani put Portugal in front before a Birkir Bjarnason strike levelled the scoring. Next up was a clash with Hungary, in which they defended heroically, and after Gylfi Sigurdsson put Iceland ahead from the spot, they looked set to secure a place in the next round, but an unfortunate own goal meant 1-1 was the final score once more.
In their final group game against Austria they looked set for three 1-1 draws, but after Austria threw men forward in search of a winner, Birkir Bjarnason’s clearance set up a counter attack which Arnor Ingvi Traustason finished off to send Iceland through.
Several players have emerged through this squad who look like real talents, so here are 3 Iceland players at Euro 2016 who Championship clubs should look to sign.
