Currently in the midst of their worst run of the season, injury plagued Charlton Athletic will be hoping for a change in fortunes tonight when they take on fellow mid-table side Hull City at the Valley.

The Addicks have been feeling the effects of their ongoing injury crisis, with the likes of Jonny Williams and Josh Cullen having been sidelined, thus leaving Lee Bowyer's side with a creative void to fill in games.

One thing that could well boost their chances of rediscovering the sort of form that they showed during the early stages of the campaign is Lyle Taylor's return from injury, with the talismanic striker having been sidelined since September with a knee problem.

Taylor's return gives Bowyer another option up top, whilst his presence both on and off the field should drive the squad on to three points sooner rather than later.

With the Addicks taking on Hull City later on this evening, we have picked out THREE Hull City weaknesses that Charlton simply must exploit....

Poor at keeping possession

One key area in which Charlton can gain an advantage over the Tigers is in midfield, with the KCOM Stadium outfit having shown a high tendency to give the ball away in the centre of the field in recent games, this could well be a key battle that the Addicks simply must win to claim all three points tonight.

Deploying a midfield diamond should in theory allow Bowyer's side to have a numerical advantage in the centre of the park, thus allowing the Addicks to dominate possession and create chances.

Poor at defending against counter attacks

The Addicks should seek to hit the away side on the counter attack as this will allow them utilise the pace of Jonathan Leko and Macauley Bonne, with both players likely to stay on the shoulder of the Hull City backline throughout the 90 minutes.

Bowyer should look to take simple steps to utilise a counter attacking style of play, such as leaving an extra man up field when defending corners and asking his wide players to stay high and wide at every opportunity.

Poor at defending against through balls

Hull City are also poor at defending against through balls, particularly as the Tigers look to play with an abnormally high backline, thus leaving space in behind for opposition strikers to exploit.

Bowyer should look for Bonne to act as a target man whilst Leko stays on the shoulder of the last defender, as this will allow the youngster to get in behind if Bonne flicks the ball on, whilst the Charlton boss will no doubt be looking for Conor Gallagher to play penetrating passes to his strikers both in the air and on the deck.
