Hull City are currently sitting top of the Sky Bet Championship, with 56 points from their 28 games so far.

Whilst they are just one point ahead of Middlesbrough having played a game more, they are odds on from many bookmakers to gain promotion back to the Premier League this season, 12 months after narrowly getting relegated from the top flight.

After a relatively slow start, alternating between play-off positions between September and October, they have put together a run of four wins on the bounce and just four defeats since September, impressive in the unpredictable league that is the Championship.

Abel Hernandez has been their star man this season, with 15 goals in the league. Their defensive pairing of Curtis Davies and Michael Dawson have been excellent, helping their side in conceding just 18 goals since August.

Special praise must also be given to goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who has played every minute of this season and has been a major force behind that impressive defensive record, and it is extremely hard to believe he is the same man that back in 2014 almost lost a kidney after a challenge with now team-mate Mohamed Diame.

His recovery and rise to one of the best goalkeepers in the English second tier is remarkable, and, should the Tigers get promoted, would have earned his Premier League place.

Abel Hernandez

The Uruguayan is in the form of his life lately, with 15 goals for the Tigers this term and six in his last four.

His recent hat-trick against Charlton and being the only scorer of the game against Fulham show his ability to make the difference when it is needed, and, even with the immense quality of Steve Bruce's side, it is hard to see a game in which he does not score.

The 25-year old underwhelmed somewhat in his first season in England, scoring just four times as Hull were relegated, but has definitely found the form that Bruce signed him for this season.

The former Palermo player is hoping his run does not let up in the coming weeks, with a winnable FA Cup fourth round tie away to Bury on the menu.

Hernandez's form has been recognised by fellow managers as well, with Arsenal apparently interested in him to solve their seemingly perpetual striker shortage.

Steve Bruce may well be praying that Arsene Wenger does not get his man, otherwise their quest for the Premier League will take a major blow.

Sam Clucas

The 25-year old signed for Hull from League One side Chesterfield last summer.

Since then, he has made 27 starts in all competitions, scoring five.

His main skill however appears to be assists, setting up seven goals for his team mates, the highest amount in the division.

The Englishman is a versatile player - his regular position is left midfield, however he has also featured for the Tigers in central midfield, on the right wing as well as filling in at left back once too.

Clucas has also earnt the man of the match award three times, impressive after stepping up a division to the Championship league leaders.

Clucas is undoubtedly a significant reason behind the Tigers' positioning in their first season in the Championship this time around, and whilst he deserves and can hold his own in a Premier League side, Bruce will not want to see him leave prematurely.

Moses Odubajo

Another near ever-present, Odubajo signed for Hull in a deal from Brentford in August 2015. The English U20 international was a key member from the Bees' extraordinary season last time out, making 45 appearances.

Odubajo has made 26 league starts for the Tigers so far this season, and mostly plays at right-back. However, he has filled in at left back and right midfield.

A player who likes to dribble and go past his opponent, he also offers an attacking outlet, with his most telling contribution winning the penalty in Hull's recent victory against Fulham earlier in January.

There is no doubt that Odubajo will make it to the Premier League, but again is one that Bruce will want to see get to the top flight with his side.

He has been capped six times in 2015 by the U20 national side, and, with no right-back making the position his own, Roy Hodgson may consider Odubajo as a potential wild card for the 2018 World Cup.
