Over the past couple of decades, Coventry City have faded from an established Premier League side into a mediocre League One outfit.

This is largely a result of financial troubles which has seen Coventry plummet in recent times.

The glory days of the 1987 FA Cup triumph seem a long time ago as the Sky Blues fans are nowadays more accustomed to playing third tier football and struggling with that as well.

One of the saving graces of Coventry City is their ability to produce talented youngsters.

This is inevitably counteracted by the eventual sale of these players a few years down the line.

The likes of James Maddison, Callum Wilson and Cyrus Christie have all broken into the first team then been moved on shortly thereafter in recent times.

There seems to be a steady flow of exceptionally talented youngsters, though, and the Sky Blues will be expecting a few young stars to rise to prominence this season and play a role in the first team.

Here are THREE hidden gems that Coventry have at the moment...

Cian Harries

Cian Harries made his first team debut on the final day of last season against Oldham, and has played a few times this season as Tony Mowbray has struggled to recruit some defensive reinforcements.

The 19-year-old centre half is tall and commanding but still quite raw.

With a bit more game time, he could develop into an exceptional defender but at the moment he will have to bide his time behind Jordan Turnbull and Jordan Willis for a starting spot.

Kyle Spence

Exciting winger Kyle Spence could be handed some game time this season if he keeps impressing with the reserve team.

The 19-year-old is full of tricks and his pace causes all sorts of problems for full backs.

The former Scotland youth international has been on the bench a few times this season, and could be thrown into the action if there is an injury or two in the wide areas.

Ben Stevenson

Ben Stevenson is probably the most talented player in Coventry's academy at the moment.

The young central midfielder has been handed a number of first team opportunities this season, and has really stood out with his maturity, composure and passing range.

With more regular game time, the 19-year-old could be the "next James Maddison" once he settles into League One football.
