Sone Aluko has flattered to deceive since he joined Reading last summer.

The Nigerian forward joined the Royals from Fulham for £8 million, according to Transfermarkt. However, he hasn't had the desired effect after impressing in Fulham's promotion push last season.

His form for Reading replicates their season in general because there was a lot of hope that they could improve on last season, but instead they have been dragged into a relegation dogfight as well as being forced to sack Jaap Stam and bring Paul Clement in.

Three goals and four assists in 41 league matches is a poor return considering the price they paid for him. In contrast, he managed to score eight goals and assist ten in 47 league games last season, which includes the play-offs.

This is a significant downturn in form, although other factors could be at play such as the change of manager as well as the difference in playing styles between the two clubs. However, he has had sufficient time to deal with the transition with little change in end product.

His other statistics aren't bad because he is averaging 1.5 shots and 1.9 dribbles per game, so he is still playing an active role in Reading's final third play while also having 82.5% pass success which means he is effective at ball retention in advanced areas.

Unfortunately for him, he was brought in for his end product first and foremost which he hasn't delivered on and is part of the reason why the Royals have only scored 48 goals in the league. They are 20 goals lower than their tally last season with two games remaining, so it's a major issue which Clement needs to solve for next season.
