Bristol City are currently flying high in the EFL Championship, now sat sixth in the EFL Championship 11 games into the season and are just two points off the top of the table having lost one game so far this campaign.

As with every good team that begins to kick into form, City won't be changing many of their squad around often so therefore, any players who aren't seen as automatic regulars for Lee Johnson's side need to fight for their place whenever an opportunity presents itself.

Here, we've listed three fringe Bristol City players that need to impress between now and January...

Antoine Semenyo

The young Bristol City forward has currently made seven appearances in all competitions for the Robins this season, however has been fearing for his place in the squad throughout pretty much the entire season.

Semenyo was moved on down the pecking order when Benik Afobe came in during January however when the striker suffered his season-ending injury, Semenyo was presented with more of a chance at Ashton Gate and he'll be hoping that he can do enough to impress Lee Johnson in the next few months to show that the Robins manager doesn't need to dip into the transfer market for a new forward.

Callum O'Dowda

The Bristol City attacker is yet to lay his mark on the Robins squad so far this season with just seven appearances, but will be wanting to repay the faith that Johnson has shown in him to award him with a new contract recently.

O'Dowda doesn't really fit into Bristol City's system however as Johnson has now reverted back to the 3-5-2 formation and the Irish winger has become a sacrifice to the system.

But now is a better time than any to prove his versatility and earn a spot back in the starting 11.

Sammie Szmodics

The summer signing from Colchester United is yet to be given a chance at Bristol City, having made just the two appearances so far this season as Lee Johnson seems slightly reluctant to trust the youngster in the league thus far.

He could have been an answer to Bristol City's striker woes following Afobe's injury, however the he has been completely overlooked in favour of others and his chance had best come to him quick if he wants to play a role in what could be a successful season for the side from South Bristol.
