Aston Villa boss Dean Smith got off to the perfect start to his life as manager of his boyhood club, with a hard fought 1-0 win over Swansea City.

A goal from Tammy Abraham proved to be enough for Smith to pick up his first points as Aston Villa manager and he will be keen to earn another three points this week as his side travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich City.

The win moved Villa up to 13th in the Championship table, but more importantly, they are just three points adrift of Norwich, who currently occupy a play-off position.

Many Villa fans will feel that if Smith can get this side firing, then Aston Villa will certainly be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season as they are already in the play-off chasing pack.

But could Smith do with some defensive reinforcements to add depth to his squad?

We look at the best CB options that would be available on a free transfer.

Find out who they are here....

Collins has been a free agent since the summer after leaving West Ham and he already has been linked with a move to Villa Park.

The 35-year-old would add experience to the defence and could still do a job in the Championship after making 12 starts for West Ham during their Premier League campaign last season.

The former Leicester City man was crucial in their title-winning season but injuries meant he didn't feature at all last season, which led to him being released at the end of their campaign.

At the age of 34, he should certainly be an option to bring in, with his winning mentality potentially having a positive influence in the dressing room amongst the Villa squad.

The former Stoke City man has been a free agent since January 2018 when he left French side, Metz.

At the age of just 29, Wollscheid would be an excellent addition to the Villa side and could arguably still do a job in the Premier League for some teams.
