Queens Park Rangers are in a little bit of limbo right now despite a solid start to the Championship season.

Having seen off Wolves’ interest in Mick Beale, it appeared that QPR could focus on building on the place they’d worked the way into in the promotion race.

However, results have soured and QPR have dropped to seventh in the table heading into the World Cup break and there’s now fresh speculation surrounding Beale.

It’s been reported that Rangers are keen to bring Beale back to Ibrox, where he’d served as part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff previously.

Sky Sports are outlining how Rangers are set to approach QPR for permission to speak to Beale as they search for Giovanni van Bronckhorst‘s replacement.

That makes looking ahead to January and strengthening the squad at Loftus Road that little bit stranger.

However, we take a look at how QPR might look to strengthen their squad with free agents here:

Danny Rose

Kenneth Paal has been exceptional for QPR this season with a goal and three assists from left-back.

However, when he’s not been available to Beale, QPR have dropped a total of five points, with alternatives like Jake Clarke-Salter and Nicholas Hamalainen not quite having the same impact.

Someone like Rose, then, could be an ideal pickup for the R’s. He’s high-profile in that he’s played at the sharp end of the Premier League, but at 32-years-old, offers won’t be flooding in. It might be that a step back into the Championship is just what he needs.

QPR, you’ve got to say, could do with the depth.

Stefan Johnasen remains such an important member of this QPR squad, offering up two goals and six assists already this season. When he isn’t available, Beale’s side suffer.

However, he’s only managed to play 16 times in the Championship this season and QPR might be minded to bring in a touch of experience alongside him.

Drinkwater had a really promising stint in the Championship with Reading FC last season, making 33 appearances, 31 of which came in the starting line-up.

Another former Premier League player, he could offer so much as an alternative to the captain.

Matej Vydra

Vydra is one of the standout free agents right now when it comes to clubs in the Championship.

The forward has been out of action with a serious knee injury and has left Burnley ahead of their drop back down into the second-tier.

That means there’s an element of risk with whoever takes a punt on the 30-year-old, although you’d be minded to look at his form at this level during his time with Derby County, when he struck 26 goals across two seasons.

QPR have a good depth of attacking options, albeit with a couple of players prone to injuries. Could they maybe look to add some more firepower?
