Birmingham City have experienced a relatively poor start to the season, managing just one win in the opening eleven fixtures.

Garry Monk’s side sit 18th in the table, which is good considering their lack of wins, helped massively by the fact they have drawn eight times.

It is quite remarkable really: Birmingham are obviously tough to beat, having only lost two, but just can’t win for the life of them.

The defensive record is solid, while the attacking record is about 1 goal per game, so that could be improved.

Monk will have to wait until January to seriously bolster his squad, so he is left with what he has, unless he chooses to delve into the free agent market for some talent.

Some fresh faces in any department could help turn those draws into wins, and hopefully for their sake help Birmingham start to climb the table.

Here at FLW, we look at THREE free agents still available to Birmingham City…

Stephen Ireland is still without a club after being released by Stoke City in the summer. The Irishman’s career started ever so well and was one of the best players in Manchester City’s side pre-takeover.

Sadly since then it has been plagued with injuries, but that doesn’t take away the

talent Ireland has in midfield. At 32, Ireland still has a couple of seasons in him and could give Birmingham a sense of creativity that they have missed.

Philipp Wollscheid had a season or two under Mark Hughes at Stoke, but moved on to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga where he struggled for fitness. After a poor season at Metz in France, the tall German was released.

Now, he is available on a free and Birmingham may be tempted to chase his signature to bolster their defence. At the age of 29, he could be a good asset.

Karim Ansarifard is being considered by a number of clubs after a positive World Cup with Iran.

The striker is a free agent and would certainly add goals to Birmingham’s side, which would hopefully go some way to turning draws into wins.
