It was a calm transfer deadline day for Sheffield Wednesday, which saw Middlesbrough winger Adam Reach sign on at Hillsborough for a fee of £6 million.

The move capped off what has been a brilliant transfer window for the Owls, which culminated in eight new signings as they aim to go one better than last year, when they came agonisingly close to promotion.

However, things have not begun in the fashion Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal would have wanted, having picked up just one win in their first five league matches.

There will be many players out there who will be extremely disappointed in present times, and find themselves without a club going into September.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer George Harbey identifies THREE free agents Wednesday should look to sign in order to sustain their promotion ambitions...

Peter Odemwingie

Peter Odemwingie

The Nigerian finds himself unattached, despite scooping up four Player of the Month awards in the Premier League during his time with West Brom, and an African Player of the Year award in 2011.

After reaching double figures in his first two seasons in the top-flight, Odemwingie proved that he can still find the net, scoring three times in seven games on loan for Bristol City last term.

And with his ability to also operate as a winger, Odemwingie would be a perfect coup for Carvalhal, especially on a free.

Stéphane Sessègnon

Sessegnon

Having played in the Premier League for the last six years, it comes as a great shock as to how the Benin international finds himself without a club going into the 2016/17 campaign.

Making 87 appearances for Sunderland and 79 appearances for West Brom, the 32-year-old still has a lot to offer in the English league.

His lightening pace and agility would be an influential asset for Carvalhal's men, especially in behind the prolific Fernando Forestieri and Steven Fletcher.

Sol Bamba

Having had his contract terminated by Garry Monk on Thursday, being as Leeds United didn't receive any offers for the Ivorian, Bamba will be looking to bounce straight back into playing regular football again, and what better place to do so than at Wednesday.

The 31-year-old made 58 appearances for Leeds, and would bring experience and solidarity in abundance to the Owls back line.

On a free, Carvalhal would do no wrong in bringing Bamba to the other side of Yorkshire.
