After the massive capture of ex-Manchester United player Jaap Stam as the club's new manager, there was a fair amount of positivity around the Madejski Stadium before the season started.

He has brought in Premier League champion Liam Moore, Chelsea's John Swift, PSG winger Yakou Meite and eight other players as he overhauled the squad ahead of what Royals fans are demanding to be a better season than the last, where they finished in just 17th place and only three points ahead of 21st place Rotherham.

With the emergency loan window being scrapped by FIFA, all EFL clubs are only allowed to sign free agents between now a January.

There are one or two positions in the Reading squad a little light, especially when you consider the physicality of this league and the need to have two options in every position.

Reading have had a mixed start, sat in 15th place after two wins, a draw and two defeats.

It's a long season, and here are THREE free agents that Reading should sign ASAP to help them throughout it...

Reece Wabara

wabara

Still only 24-years old, the ex-Manchester City man has been in League One of late and impressing many.

He played in 19 out of 23 league games for Barnsley during his time there in the first half of last season, before Wigan came calling and snapped him up until the end of the season.

He made 19 appearances there as he helped the Latics win the title, scoring a single goal and making two more on the way.

Wabara was released when his contract expired in the summer, with Gary Caldwell saying that it was the biggest decision he had to make with regards to releasing players.

He played mainly at right-back, but also at centre-back, so that versatility is a big positive. Right-back is a position they're short in, with only Chris Gunter, who himself isn't very popular with many Reading fans.

It's likely Wabara won't be a free agent for much longer, as he was the subject of interest from Bristol City and Leeds, before almost joining the Elland Road club.

Kieran Richardson

The ex-Manchester United player, who scored nine goals in his 75 appearances at Old Trafford, was released by Aston Villa after they were relegated to the Championship last season. He couldn't nail down a spot in the first team, playing almost as many times in left midfield than in his natural position of left-back.

Reading have problems at left-back, with Tyler Blackett, an on-loan centre-back from Manchester United, playing there in the last game, and only Jordan Obita a recognised player in that spot.

Richardson would add extra depth to that position, something needed if you want to compete in this league, and would bring quality to this Reading team.

Emmanuel Adebayor

At 32-years old, Adebayor still represents a quality striker who can find the net, but Stam will have to work hard to get the best out of him.

During his time at Crystal Palace, and even at Tottenham Hotspur, he was accused of being too lazy, but if the ex-Manchester United player can persuade him what his team are trying to achieve then it could inspire Adebayor to give it his all once more.

Fulham were in talks with the player on Deadline Day, but nothing came to light in terms of that move, so it could be feasible that Adebayor is willing to listen to offers from the second tier.

The Togo international had his most potent spell at Arsenal, scoring 62 goals in 142 games for the Gunners.

Reading fans, what do you think? Could these players help you climb the league table? Are there any other free agents that you'd like your team to sign? Let us know below!
