Ipswich Town missed out on promotion last season, but are in contention for the play-offs again, sitting just outside the top six on goal difference.

Mick McCarthy's side have been in strong form in recent weeks, losing just one of their last eight Championship matches, and can focus on the league after being knocked out of the FA Cup by League Two side Portsmouth.

The Tractor Boys haven't done much in the transfer window yet, bringing in Paul Digby on loan from Barnsley, while reaching an agreement with free agent Kevin Foley.

Ipswich had a cheap summer window too, with the majority of their new signings coming in on free transfers, including midfielders Jonathan Douglas and Giles Coke.

The manager has already admitted that he isn't expecting to make many additions this month, believing that he already has a competitive squad.

John Arne Riise

John Arne Riise

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise is without a club after coming to the end of his spell with Indian Super League side Delhi Dynamos, and would surely be keen to return to England.

At 35, the former Norway international has plenty of miles on the clock, but he recently insisted that he believes he can play until he is 40.

Riise has only ever played in the Premier League in England, but his quality and experience could interest Ipswich, while giving the ex-Fulham man a chance to prove he's still a capable player.

Ipswich's defence has been patchy at times this season, but Riise can be a goal threat as well as helping out at the back, scoring 21 goals in 234 league appearances with Liverpool, where he also played as a midfielder.

Shaun Wright-Phillips

Shaun Wright-Phillips is a free agent after MLS side New York Red Bulls declined to keep him on for the 2016 season.

The 34-year-old ended a four-year stint with QPR to move to the American league last year, scoring once in 14 appearances for the team before being released last month.

The winger, who spent the majority of his career in the Premier League with Manchester City and Chelsea, is known for his dribbling and fast-paced passing, and could help Ipswich create more chances going forward.

The former England international was linked with a number of Championship clubs last season before ultimately choosing to stay with QPR in the top flight, but now that he's a free agent to chance to join a side pushing for promotion could tempt Wright-Phillips.

Dwight Tiendalli

Dutch international Dwight Tiendalli was released by Swansea City in the summer, having spent three years with the Premier League side.

The 30-year-old made a couple of appearances in the Championship last season, spending the season half of the campaign on loan with Middlesbrough.

All of the sides above Ipswich in the table have conceded fewer goals than Mick McCarthy's team, so a defender like Tiendalli, who is known for his tackling and ability to intercept the ball, could really help the Tractor Boys.

Tiendalli was linked with a move to Leicester City after being released by Swansea, but was unable to agree a deal with the Foxes.
