As Derby County continue their push for promotion to the Premier League, Paul Clement has continued to look to spend the money and add to his squad.

Their form however has faltered of late, and while many are saying it is just a bump in the road, the longer these blips continue, the more concerned fans become.

While Clement will no doubt look to keep his squad fresh with new faces, there is not always a need to spend millions of pounds on transfer fees.

Many players remain unattached and out of contract in January, and the Derby boss could be best served looking at this market as he looks to improve his playing staff.

There is often a reason some players are without clubs at this time of year, but sometimes it is a case that they have simply not been given the chance to impress.

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule, where player wage demands exceed the reality of what a club can offer.

Here, I look at THREE free agents Derby County could look to sign this transfer window.....

Maynor Figueroa

The former Hull City left-back has been without a club since leaving Colorado Rapids at the end of last season.

While Derby are rich in attacking options, they conceded three in their last home game against Birmingham, and Figueroa could be the ideal signing.

The Honduran, who has well over 100 caps for his country, would bring experience and power to the Derby backline, as well as being able to fill in at left back and centre half if needed.

He possesses a vicious left foot when striking a ball too, and could be the ideal man to step in at this point of the season for the promotion chasers.

Shaun Wright Phillips

Another player recently released by an MLS team, Shaun Wright Phillips could surely still offer something at Championship level.

Once a £21m signing for Chelsea, Wright Phillips never got his career up to the level that many thought his promise showed during his time with Manchester City.

He does however have over 30 caps for England, and holds experience at the highest levels of football.

Even if Wright Phillips didn't necessarily get the game time, his presence and experience around a team full of exciting attacking wide players, could well serve a massive benefit to Paul Clement and his squad.

Emmanuel Eboue

The former Arsenal full-back has recently been released by Turkish giants Galatasaray, and has been touted for a move back to England.

Eboue has immense experience at international and Champions League level, as well as being part of many successful Arsenal teams.

While he is the wrong side of 30, there is no doubt he can bring quality to Derby's defence.

Wages may well be a stumbling block, but with Derby being linked with fees in the millions for players of lesser quality, splashing some money on the wages of someone of proven class could well be worth the risk.
