Birmingham City have a pretty decent start to the season and barring that home defeat to Wolves, have performed pretty respectably from the get go.

Gary Rowett's team aren't one to splash the cash - they quite simply aren't in a situation to do so.

So when just Lukas Jutkiewicz and Rhoys Wiggins came through on transfer deadline day, it's fair to say that most Blues fans weren't surprised with the lack of business.

With the club still waiting to be taken over following Carson Yeung's wretched reign as owner, finances are tight and have remained tight for at least the past four years.

But one market where there is a level playing field is the free transfers, those unattached figures that don't command a transfer fee because they're not with a club.

Whilst you can outbid others on wages, it's a lot easier to compete with rivals around you if your budget isn't quite on the same scale.

So for Gary Rowett, this might be a fantastic option going forward if he decides to take it up and its safe to say, there is plenty of talent available too.

With that in mind then, here's THREE free agents the Blues might want to consider signing going forward.....

Yun-Suk Young

Former QPR man Yun-Suk Young is still without a club having left Loftus Road at the start of July.

There are a few that are a little surprised the defender hasn't been snapped up at this stage but we feel he could do a job at Birmingham City.

They've had a bit of trouble at full-back, with Jonathan Grounds failing to turn in good performances week-after-week.

Gary Rowett signed Bournemouth full-back Rhoys Wiggins on a five-month loan deal but they could do with a more permanent option to put pressure on Grounds.

Young could do just that and as a free option, he'd be a handy option.

Peter Odemwingie

We've heard little about his future since he had a loan spell with Bristol City last season, but there is little doubt he could add a touch of quality to this Birmingham City squad.

Whilst he might not be 20 anymore, he's certainly got plenty of experience and once commanded a transfer fee of over £10million.

Sometimes these sorts of players just need a chance and Blues fans won't forget how good Kevin Phillips was at a late age...

Leon Osman

Former Everton favourite Leon Osman is currently a free agent and as we've heard nothing about impending retirement, he must still be looking for a team.

He gave everything for the Toffees during a 16-year spell on Merseyside and was known for his robust, tenacious attitude which flowed through the rest of the team.

Blues have good choice in the middle of the park and behind the striker, but you can't help a player of his quality would be useful if they were challenging for promotion come the end of the season.
