Birmingham City may decide to dabble in the free agent market over the next few weeks, with the injury issues mounting and the side wanting to kick on.

They've already had Andre Wisdom with them at St Andrew's, preparing for a potential deal to join the club and there could be more where that came from whether he signs or not.

The defender has been without a club for a while and with the Blues in desperate need of some defensive reinforcements, they have been forced into looking at potential free signings.

They could yet decide not to give Wisdom a chance with them or they could bring him in on a short-term deal. Either way, it might not bring an end to their business and here are three more players they could consider looking at in the free agent market.

1. Winston Reid

Defence is an area of the field that Birmingham are currently quite short in due to a pile up of injuries and it is therefore the main area of concern for the club right now.

They're already looking to address the problem by potentially bringing in Wisdom but if they don't fancy the former Derby man, then they could always turn to another defensive target if they can afford his wages on a short-term deal in Winston Reid.

The player has featured for West Ham in the top flight and helped get Brentford into the Premier League - and has plenty of experience on how to compete at the top end of the Championship because of it.

That could come in great use to the Blues, who are currently marooned in the bottom half of the table and will want to push on. Reid could arguably do a job higher up the division, so if they could bring him in even until the end of the year it could be a big boost for them.

2. Eunan O'Kane

If they want to look at a different area of the field, then perhaps some backup in midfield could help.

Enter Eunan O'Kane, who has been without a team since he left Leeds at the beginning of the year. He's experienced throughout English football and while a lot of time for the player - and some of his best performances - came a lot lower in the pyramid at League Two level, he has played in over 100 Championship games.

He's fared fairly solidly during his time in the second tier too and add in a handful of Premier League appearances and he wouldn't be a bad addition by any means. Whilst he wouldn't walk straight into first-team contention, he could be used in rotation and would probably stand in and do a decent job.

If he managed to hit some of the peaks of his powers during his time with the Blues, he could even nail down a starting berth.

3. Orjan Nyland

The final name on this list might not set the world alight and he might not have had the greatest time in English football yet but it could get better football out of Neil Etheridge.

The shot-stopper has had to come into the starting eleven for Birmingham and whilst the club already has two backup goalkeepers, neither of them are likely to really test the club's starting stopper for now.

Instead, the addition of Nyland could provide some good competition for the spot and may force Etheridge into producing even better displays to keep his place.

Nyland himself isn't a bad goalkeeper by any means but his time in England is tainted by the time he conceded six goals at Bournemouth to Norwich and some dodgy displays elsewhere.
