Blackburn Rovers are currently occupying 12th place in the Championship table after their opening seven games, with the Lancashire based outfit having picked up 10 points from a possible 21 up for grabs, winning three, drawing one and losing three.

Naturally, Rovers boss Tony Mowbray will be looking for his side to dramatically improve this form so that they can look to push up the table, and in recent days a potential arrival at Ewood Park has come to light in the form of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby.

With Holtby having been without a club since his release by Hamburg at the end of last season, most people would think this would be a no brainer for Mowbray to sign him up, however, we have picked out THREE flaws that this potential incoming could have for the Rovers team...

Halts the progress of young players

With the potential addition of the experienced Holtby on the cards, it may spell bad news for the younger members of the squad such as Lewis Travis, who has only just established himself in the Rovers midfield since breaking into the first team in 2017.

Travis has come on leaps and bounds in the last few months with the 21 year-old's place secure in Mowbray's starting 11 at present, however, with Holtby potentially arriving on the scene, Travis could see his game time limited as they both operate in the same position.

Injury Prone

The 28-year-old former Germany international has had his fair share of injuries down the years, with the midfielder having missed 368 days through injury over the course of his career, or in other words, more than a year!

Blackburn would be taking a big risk if they signed Holtby, with the player at an age where one bad injury could spell the end to his career as a professional.

High wages

Blackburn would be shelling out a large amount to cover Holtby's wages, with the former Fulham man most likely to have been one of Hamburg's top earners last season, with the club releasing him from his contract amid financial issues regarding outstanding debts.

Blackburn would be acquiring a player who would not only demand to be starting every game, but one that may also expect to earn the highest wage in the squad, both are issues which could cause a fractious relationship amongst the playing staff.
