As starts go, Ipswich Town endured an extremely fruitful result in their opener against Barnsley on Saturday, beating the Tykes 4-2 at Portman Road.

Mick McCarthy will have been delighted to see new signing Grant Ward grab a hat-trick on his debut, even though he only came on as a substitute.

And following the game, some have tipped Ipswich to be the surprise package of the season. After all, they've been knocking on the door for the past couple of seasons and you always get the feeling with a McCarthy team that they will compete until the end.

But in any Championship campaign experience is key- both on the pitch and off it. And with the Tractor Boys making such a good start, they only seem a couple of additions away from having a squad that can really challenge this season.

There are still a few weeks available in the transfer window so with that in mind, here's THREE experienced players Ipswich should sign this summer...

Frazier Campbell

Somewhat of an outcast at Premier League side Crystal Palace, you can't help but feel that a loan move could get Campbell's career started again.

He's got plenty of experience at this level and definitely knows where the net is.

He'd also take some of the goal-scoring burden off David McGoldrick, whom the Tractor Boys really rely on for goals.

Sebastien Pocognoli

The West Brom outcast has really struggled to get into Tony Pulis' side in recent months. He's expected to see out the remainder of his deal with the Baggies, and a loan move could suit both parties going forward.

He's an experienced left-back who has featured for the Belgian national team on 13 occasions. He's a sturdy defender and has good delivery of the ball too.

Ritchie De Laet

Another Belgian, Ritchie De Laet spent time on-loan at Middlesbrough last season after failing to force his way into the Leicester City squad.

It's difficult to see him breaking into Claudio Ranieri's first-team plans again this season so a move away from the King Power stadium might be on the cards.

If so, Ipswich Town would be a great place to go for the former Manchester United trainee.

He'd offer good competition to Chambers and Knudsen, and he has played on both flanks in the past. A versatile option.
