Fulham got off to the best possible start in this year's Sky Bet Championship, beating promotion favourites Newcastle 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

And whilst part of that was down to how poorly the recently-relegated side played, they put in a great effort to come away with the points, and gave the Magpies a rude awakening in what everyone expected to be an easy season for Rafa Benitez's side.

Slavisa Jokanovic came into the club last December, so this will be his first transfer window being able to bring in the players he wants, especially as Fulham have recently emerged from a transfer embargo. He has already acted wisely, getting rid of some of the dead wood in their squad and bringing in the likes of Sone Aluko, David Button, Denis Odoi, Kevin McDonald and Tomas Kalas.

However, it hasn't been without trouble for the ex-Watford boss, having to let star strikers Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele leave for Aston Villa and Celtic respectively. There are still probably a few more players that Jokanovic will want to bring into the club, so it could be an exciting few weeks in the business end of the transfer window for their fans.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, are THREE experienced players that Fulham should sign in the remainder of the summer...

Micah Richards

If you look at the Fulham squad, there are two areas that immediately stick out to you that they need to strengthen.

One of these is right-back, with only the injured Ryan Fredericks signed on in that position. On Friday, Jokanovic played new signing Odoi out of position at right-back, and although he did well, perhaps all parties would prefer him to play at his natural left full-back position.

Richards started his career at Manchester City, making almost 250 appearances for the Sky Blues during his ten years at the club.

However, since the club have had the injection of cash from the Abu Dhabi ruling family and the ability to bring in top players such as Pablo Zabaleta, he has fallen out of favour, re-injecting life back into his career by spending a season on loan at Fiorentina and then moving to Aston Villa last summer, where he was named captain by Tim Sherwood.

Whilst he looked hap-hazardous at times, the player has tried to convert to a centre-back, so maybe moving back to right-back would help his performances.

The 28-year-old has 13 England caps to his name and was part of the Great Britain football squad at the London Olympics, and this vast experience would help Fulham this season in what is an unexperienced back line with the likes of Tomas Kalas, Michael Madl and Denis Odoi not having played all that much in England.

On top of this, Richards was left out in Villa's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, and may be a player that Roberto di Matteo is looking to get rid of.

Luke Chambers

They don't come much more experienced than Chambers. A more than decent player, the Ipswich captain missed just one match in the Championship last season and unsurprisingly played the full 90 as the Tractor Boys opened the season in style with a 4-2 win against Barnsley.

With 330 Championship appearances throughout his long career, the 30-year old has played 225 times for Nottingham Forest, 103 times for Northampton Town and, so far, 193 times for Ipswich.

He would be a great signing and a solid addition in Fulham's least covered area, but it is unlikely that Mick McCarthy will want to let him go at all.

However, money talks, and if Fulham can regurgitate a portion of the £12 million they received for McCormack then he could add excellent experience and quality to the Cottagers' defence.

Clayton Donaldson

The other position that I eluded to earlier is a striker.

Whilst Matt Smith scored on Friday night, Jokanovic won't want to rely on a player who hasn't ever scored on a regular basis at this level.

With Sone Aluko looking good in the number ten position, they need a player who can hold the ball up and lead the line, or a so-called 'number nine'.

Donaldson fits that bill, is experienced, and has a very decent scoring record. 53 goals in 155 games for Brentford, 48 in 126 for Crewe and 27 in 90 so far for the Blues represents a player who will score you goals every season.

His hat-trick against Bristol City last term showed everyone just how good a player he could be, but the 32-year old would definitely have to improve his consistency.

With the creative talent of Tom Cairney, Floyd Ayite, Kevin McDonald and Aluko, Donaldson could find the quality of his service allows him more opportunities to put the ball in the net, and improve on his impressive figures of 11 goals and 11 assists that he got for Birmingham last season.
