Aston Villa has spent a large amount of their transfer funds promised by new Chinese business owner Dr Tony Xia this summer.

The Midlands club have brought in Tommy Elphick for £3 million, Ross McCormack for £12 million, Aaron Tshibola for £5 million and Pierluigi Gollini for £4.25 million.

With still some money left in the account, Di Matteo will not stop looking for ways to improve his side.

With their recruitments, they have a side that should be aiming to push for the top six in the Championship, but they have several youngsters in their side such as Jack Grealish, Gary Gardner and Andre Green who need nurturing at a deflated club, following their relegation from the Premier League in April.

Experience is a key asset in the competitive nature of the Championship, and could be the pivotal in whether a side is successful or not.

Villa have until the end of the month to perfect their side ready for the rough and tumble of the Championship, but need to add experience if they are going lift their morale in the squad.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE experienced players Aston Villa should sign......

Wes Hoolahan

Hoolahan has played more than 250 games for Norwich and currently represents the Republic of Ireland's national side.

Aston Villa are a side who are hungry to be successful again, and Hoolahan certainly has an abundance of promotion history during his career.

He won back-to-back promotions with the Canaries during 2009-2011, and also won promotion with Norwich during the Championship play-off in 2015.

At the age of 34, he still has a couple of years in the tank to be a big player at Villa Park, and certainly someone who would be a big asset at Villa Park.

Paul McShane

McShane was one of Reading's star players last year in a side that were on the verge of a relegation scrap at one point last year.

Likewise to Hoolahan, he has also been an established member of the Republic of Ireland set-up and has plenty of Championship experience to his name.

During a loan spell with Brighton and Hove Albion in the 2005/2006 season, he was voted the club's player of the year that saw him take a step up in his career.

He won promotion with Hull City in the Championship in 2013, and was part of their Premier League and FA Cup Final campaign against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium.

In a shaky Aston Villa defence, McShane could really tighten up the ropes at the back.

Leon Osman

The former Everton midfielder was released from the club in the summer and many of his Merseyside team mates were shocked to see Osman be released on a free.

He has made over 300 appearances in the Premier League and represented Everton in the Uefa Cup, and started in their FA Cup final in 2009 - losing to Arsenal.

Osman commanded a first team place at Everton for many years, and could be a great tutor for some of Villa's young up and coming talent.
