Leeds United finally got off the mark in the Championship earlier this week, with a 1-1 draw giving Garry Monk his first point since taking charge in the summer.

The ultimate aim for Leeds this season has to be to challenge for the play-off's, with a run for the automatic places not off the cards if Monk can get his new look side to gel and be successful.

A late Chris Wood goal saw them on their way this week at home against Fulham, while the addition of new defender Pontus Jansson today gives the back line a further boost.

A Yorkshire derby awaits Garry Monk and his team this weekend as they make the short trip to Hillsborough to take on Sheffield Wednesday in what is sure to be a tough - but winnable - game.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at THREE early signs that show Leeds United can win promotion this season...

Garry Monk seems able to get his message across

Following the 2-1 defeat to Birmingham in their first home game of the season, Monk delivered a scathing assessment where he questioned his teams character and commitment to want to fight for three points.

This was answered in the best way possible 3 days later, as Leeds came from behind against strong and confident Fulham side, to grab a point at the death.

It might look on paper like it is only a home point gained, but it was the start Monk wanted, and crucially, showed his players had listened to and delivered what was asked of them.

Marcus Antonsson looks like a shrewd piece of business

Despite not scoring in the league as yet, Antonssons smart turn and finish in the EFL Cup against Fleetwood showed what he is all about when it comes to tucking the ball away.

The summer signing looks an assured striker, capable of holding the ball up and getting in behind his man for chances to run at the goalkeeper.

Antonsson should knock the goals in this term, and relieve some of the pressure from Chris Wood, something which can only be a positive for the club as the season moves forward.

Monk continues to address the right areas

Most Leeds fans will concur that the defence needed strengthening, and this was evidenced in the opening day hammering at QPR.

However, since then, Monk has shown he is willing to act and identify the need for improvement, with the captures of Luke Ayling and Pontuss Jansson both providing improvements on what was in the squad already.

This eye for talent and ability to recognise when things need improving is a good sign for Leeds fans, who will be happy to see their manager seemingly trying to right the previous wrongs.
