After a hugely impressive spell at the Hawthorns thus far, everybody concerned with West Bromwich Albion will desperate for the club to keep hold of Dwight Gayle beyond this season.

The 28-year-old has certainly lived up to the expectations placed upon him when he initially arrived at the West Midlands club, with plenty hoping that he would replicate the form he displayed for Newcastle United in the 2016/17 campaign.

The forward, who scored 23 goals in 34 games that season, has definitely delivered again this time around, netting 21 times in 36 appearances for the Baggies, and propelling them firmly into the play-off spots.

Regardless of which division they find themselves in next season, Albion will be desperate to keep hold of Gayle after such an impressive campaign, and striking a formidable partnership with Jay Rodriguez up top.

But, fresh reports from Chronicle Live could hamper the club's chances of signing him on a permanent basis, with Fulham reportedly interested in signing the former Crystal Palace man from Newcastle.

West Brom looked to be in the driving seat to land Gayle, with Newcastle undoubtedly looking to keep Albion loanee Salomon Rondon at St. James' Park beyond this campaign.

But in light of this recent news, we take a look at three alternatives that West Brom should consider if he leaves...

Neal Maupay

This would be an incredible signing for West Brom.

Maupay has been one of the best strikers in the league this season, scoring 26 goals and producing eight assists for Brentford in all competitions.

He is likely to have many clubs chasing his signature, and with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough reportedly interested in the Frenchman, West Brom should definitely look to cash-in on Rondon and sign Maupay.

Fraizer Campbell

Despite being one of many standout performers for Hull City this season, Campbell is facing an uncertain future at the KCOM Stadium beyond this campaign.

The 31-year-old has proved that age is just a number, scoring 12 goals and producing six assists for the Tigers this season, but looks increasingly likely to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

He may be slightly older than Gayle, but he is a similar type of player who could be available at a bargain price on a free transfer.

Britt Assombalonga

Assombalonga is another player who is enduring a somewhat difficult season, facing an uncertain future at Middlesbrough amid reported interest from Bristol City.

The 26-year-old has scored 13 goals in 42 appearances this term, but continues to be linked with a summer move away from the Riverside.

On his day, Assombalonga is one of the most clinical strikers in the Championship, and would be a perfect replacement for Gayle.
