Marcelo Bielsa cut a frustrated figure following Leeds United’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers over the weekend, with the Argentinian far from impressed by the run of form that his side find themselves on.

Leeds are struggling to put a run of victories together, with their performance at Ewood Park containing a number of mistakes.

This week, Leeds have two chances to get things right, with Nottingham Forest visiting Elland Road on Saturday and the Whites facing Ipswich Town first on Wednesday evening.

So far this season Ipswich have been poor, with Paul Hurst’s side struggling. However, Bielsa will not underestimate the Tractor Boys, with the 63-year-old surely drilling it into his players that they need to be at their best.

Bielsa does face a tough selection dilemma, however, after such a disappointing result at Blackburn.

Luke Ayling is returning, but elsewhere in defence Bielsa needs to make decisions, whilst in attack the likes of Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez are available again.

Here at FLW, we take a look at THREE ways Bielsa could set his side up…

This has been the system that Bielsa has opted for throughout most of the season.

Stuart Dallas’ struggles at left-back mean that if Bielsa continues with a flat back four, Tom Pearce could come in, with Barry Douglas still doubtful.

Ahead of the usual defensive unit will be Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Samu Saiz, who will be flanked by Ezgjan Alioski and another, with Hernandez and Jack Clarke two options.

Kemar Roofe or Tyler Roberts will be the focal point of attack.

On occasion this season we’ve seen Bielsa turn to a system of 3-3-1-3.

Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper would likely flank a back-three, whilst Gaetano Berardi could move centrally to replace Pontus Jansson, who is doubtful after the birth of his first child.

In turning to this system, more attacking wing-backs can be used, with Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski two that Bielsa should be considering either side of Mateusz Klich or Kalvin Phillips.

Samu Saiz is likely to take up the number 10 role, whilst Bielsa has plenty of options to field a flexible front three.

Bielsa has only used two systems so far this season and if he changes from 4-1-4-1 or 3-3-1-3 it would be a surprise.

The biggest selection headache Bielsa has is at left-back, with it unclear if Barry Douglas is available.

Fielding Ezgjan Alioski there would be an attacking move, but one that could work, as the Macedonian has the quality to do well in that area.

The 4-1-4-1 system is the one we are likely to see Leeds field against Ipswich, but the personnel is what you can’t be sure of.

Against a struggling side, Bielsa could take the shackles off Leeds and put out an attacking side, with Alioski at full-back and a more direct player like Jack Clarke ahead of him.
