Derby County finished 5th in the Championship this season, and ended up narrowly missing out in the play-offs, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Hull City.

The Rams have some real talent in their squad, and the only reason that they didn't win promotion was a run of inconsistency that saw Derby drop from the top of the Sky Bet Championship table into the play-off places.

Derby have some highly rated players in their squad, with a whole lot of Premier League experience. This is coupled with the young talents breaking through such as Jamie Hanson, who has gained a large amount of first team experience this season.

It's expected that Derby will be fighting for promotion again next season, after 3 consecutive seasons in which they've missed out. Of course, any team that goes up to the Premier League must invest in their squad to ensure survival, but which players already in the Derby squad are good enough for the Premier League?

Football League World writer Rob Booth identifies THREE players Rams players who should be playing top flight football.

Will Hughes

Back in 2012, Will Hughes first burst onto the scene.

Will Hughes has made 122 appearances for Derby, and despite only scoring seven goals in this time, he is an incredible asset to the team.

The young central midfielder is great on the ball and has the ability to create chances with his terrific passing capabilities.

On the opening day of the season last summer, Hughes suffered a ligament injury that sidelined him for 8 months, but he came back even better and was arguably the Rams' best player during the final games of the 2015/16 season.

Craig Bryson

Craig Bryson has never played in the English Premier League, but he's certainly good enough.

A fan favourite at the iPro Stadium, Craig Bryson is one of the best centre midfielders in the Championship.

His energy levels and work rate are incredible. As well as his ability to create chances and pop up with a few goals too.

He's made 180 appearances in a Derby shirt, scoring 34 goals, including a memorable hat-trick against East Midlands rival Nottingham Forest in 2014.

Bryson has continued to improve since he joined from Kilmarnock in 2011, and would definitely be good enough in the Premier League.

George Thorne

George Thorne joined Derby from West Brom in 2014, where he had gained a small amount of Premier League experience.

Having struggled with injuries in his time at Derby, suffering an ACL injury in 2014, and more recently a broken shin, Thorne has only has one full season of football for the Rams but he has been very impressive when he's played.

Thorne is a great asset to the Derby team, he's great at winning the ball back as well as passing the ball forward. He's also scored some incredible long range strikes in his time with the Rams.
