3 Derby County academy stars that should breakthrough in the 2016/17 season

There are some great young players breaking into first team football in all three divisions in the Sky Bet Football League, as well as some excellent talent in academy football, and Derby County are no exception.

This season, Derby County’s Under-21 side won the Under-21 Second Division, winning 15 of their 22 matches.

A number of these academy players have gained first team experience via loans at other clubs for the first time in their careers, including Offrande Zanzala, who spent time on loan at Stevenage, and Jonathan Mitchell who went out on loan to Luton Town.

Will Hughes and Jeff Hendrick are perhaps the Rams’ best academy graduates of recent years, with both of those players being frequent first team players.

Timi Max Elsnik and Callum Guy have both been featured in Derby’s matchday squad this season following impressive performances for the youth team.
