The January transfer window is now well underway, and as ever, that means that rumour mill has gone into overdrive, with just about every club there is being linked with a long and varied list of potential targets.

Blackburn Rovers are of course no different, and it certainly seems as though the club will have to make some of those rumours into something more concrete if they are to achieve their aims this season.

Tony Mowbray's side currently sit 13th in the Championship table, four points adrift of the play-off places, meaning their hopes of mounting a push for promotion to the Premier League this season are still far from over.

To maintain those throughout the course of the season however, Blackburn will surely have to work effectively in this window, with several areas of the squad seemingly in need of strengthening.

Here, we take a look at three possible deals that would help make this the perfect transfer window for Rovers.

Scott McKenna

Defence is an area that surely needs adding to for Rovers in the next few weeks, with injuries to several members of the club's backline this season exposing a lack of both numbers and strength in depth among those they do have in that particular position in the current squad.

One name that has emerged as a potential target to add to Blackburn's defensive options is Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, who would certainly provide an extra presence at the back, were he to make the move to Lancashire.

While it may expensive, matching Aberdeen's reported £6million asking price would surely prove Mowbray and co. are serious about strengthening in defence - something which has been called into question in the past - while the fact that local rivals Burnley are also interested means that winning this particularly transfer battle would certainly go down well at Ewood Park.

Jordan Jones

The season-ending injury suffered by Bradley Dack in the goalless draw with Wigan in their final game before Christmas, means it now looks as though Rovers will be forced to go in search of a new attacking outlet this month.

Since the loss of their talismanic top scorer, Tony Mowbray's side have looked to be lacking both in terms of creativity and a goalscoring touch, something which admittedly may not have been helped by the shorter-term injury that appears to have been simultaneously suffered by Lewis Holtby.

Rovers therefore will need to add another option going forward to avoid having to rely on Holtby alone, with Rangers winger Jones recently emerging as a potential target for the Lancashire club.

It is a deal that would undoubtedly add another creative spark to Mowbray's side, which may crucial to rejuvenating an attack that looks rather low on confidence right now with the chances they will hope he can create for them.

A new goalkeeper

Another area that you feel Rovers have to strengthen in this month, is between the posts.

On-loan Brighton man Christian Walton has looked far from convincing as the club's number one this season, having already made some costly errors in the first half of the campaign, while second choice Jayson Leutwiler did little to impress when given the chance to do so in the FA Cup defeat at Birmingham on Saturday afternoon.

Adding a new goalkeeper could therefore provide some much-needed stability in their own area for Blackburn in the second half of the season, and with Walton's loan ending at the conclusion of this season, it would also relieve the pressure of having to scramble around for a new number one with no established backup in place in the summer transfer window again in a few months time.
