Darren Moore’s West Brom side have got off to a strong start to the season as they chase an immediate return to the Premier League after relegation last season.

The Baggies are currently sit third in the Championship table after their opening 13 games, and could move back to the summit of the division with a win tonight after suffering a surprise defeat at the weekend.

Moore’s side were beaten 1-0 by Wigan Athletic in a disappointing display, which also saw midfielder Jake Livermore sent off late on in the game.

The Baggies will be hoping to bounce back with a win against Derby County, who sit sixth in the Championship, three places and three points behind their opponents.

Despite Saturday's disappointment, the Baggies have been tremendous this season and look the real deal for promotion, and here, we take a look at THREE gambles that Darren Moore has made that are working this season...

The formation of 3-4-1-2 is a gamble in itself, but is paying off brilliantly well.

Teams often seem to struggle with the roles of wing-backs, as often the balance can be wrong and they can be vulnerable to a counter attack due to being too high up the pitch.

Matt Phillips and Kieran Gibbs, however, bring a perfect balance to the Baggies line-up.

The two holding midfielders also allow the talismanic Harvey Barnes to roam and do what he is best at, which has worked wonders this season.

Hegazi endured a poor start to the season and was heavily criticised by the West Brom faithful after a few disappointing performances.

But fair play to Moore - he has stuck by the Egyptian who is back to his best and is now ever-present in what is a reasonably solid Baggies defence.

After a disappointing season ended in relegation from the Premier League last term, many teams would have offloaded their most experienced players, as generally they would have been on high wages.

But the likes of Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and Craig Dawson have all been important players for the Baggies this term in their own right and their experience could help out Moore, who is relatively inexperienced.
